Area and Density

The area and density of New Jersey is based on the decennial U.S. Census reporting of area and the New Jersey State Data Center report of population estimates. 

Population density reflects the number of people of people per square mile in a specific municipality, county, Congressional or Legislative district. Based on the 2010 Census, New Jersey is the densest state in the Nation.

Area

As reported by municipality in the U.S. decennial Census, the land area of the community rounded to the nearest hundreth of a mile.

Density

The municipal population density is calculated by dividing the estimated population from the New Jersey State Data Center estimates by the area in square miles.
